My weekend update...

Running. Lots of running. Studying, so much studying. (Not me, but Mitch.) Teaching dance. Playing with Mary-Katie. Shopping with Mitch, this is a true Christmas miracle. Chipotle, of course. Church. So much more studying. And a little bit of TV.

Today is Mitch's last final. All I can say is hallelujah. I am so happy for him to finish. And so proud of him.

Can you believe it's Christmas week? I can't.

New York, New York

New York was one of the best things that has happened to me this month. First, I got to take Ali along with me, which always ensures a most delightful, hilarious time. Second, I got to see Abby. I love her so much, we got to chit-chat like old friends all through the night on Friday. Third, Jason was there. He is my favorite shopping partner.

We were in New York for about 36 hours. It went by much too quickly. We started our trip off with some pizza. Jason knew the most perfect place in Penn Station. Did I mention we ate pizza at 11:00 pm?

Friday we stayed up until 2:30 am. I have really got to stop doing this, it always gets the best of me. We started off Saturday with some delicious peppermint hot chocolate and bagels, while walking across Central Park to the East Side to see the Angel Tree in the Met. It was beautiful.

Next we just happened to come upon Dylan's Candy Bar. I haven't been there for years, I felt like I had landed right in heaven. Bins and bins and more bins of sour candy. My heart's desire. I love candy stores, I love buying candy that is too expensive and I love eating candy that is too expensive. I ate all of my candy within seven minutes of leaving the store. I was trying so hard to make it last through the day, what was I thinking? I would have need 1000 bags of candy to last me for an entire day.

Next we went to see "The Windows" at Bergdorf Goodman. And yes, they were beautiful and deserved to be called "The Windows." I loved every detail of each window. The clothing was absolutely stunning and the design was done so well.

Then we walked on over to Rockefeller Center to see the Tree. It was big and wonderful and there were about a billion people too many there. We only spent a few minutes admiring the magic of Christmas. I hope every time I walk past Rockefeller Center that Tina Fey is going to just walk right out the front door and say to me, "Sarah, will you be my best friend?" Maybe one day, maybe one day.

Then it was time to eat again, of course. Abby took us to Chinatown and we ate at the BEST Chinese restaurant ever. We indulged in dumplings, fried rice and vegetables. I could eat there again and again.

(Just in case you are wondering, this is a dumpling. The broth was so delicious.)

We then proceeded to go to MAC. I tried and failed to do my own make-up. My eyeshadow looked ridiculous, and yes everyone in the store was staring at me.

I dragged Abby to get her eyebrows waxed with me, Ali was spending all her time buying fabulous new glasses. Do you know what the lady told me at the eyebrow place? Here is our conversation:

Nice, over enthusiastic make-up lady: "You don't use under the eye cream, do you?"

Me: "Um, no."

Nice, over enthusiast make-up lady: "Well, you really should."

Awesome, I have aged and people are noticing. Not just me. Did I mention that I found another grey, shining, silver hair on my head last week?

After hours of shopping for glasses, we went to the most wonderful store in the whole entire world. Oh my. I could have spent hours and hours in there. Have you heard of Fishs Eddy? I want everything in the entire store. I could buy everything in there. It was fabulous.

By this time is was late and of course, it was time to eat again. I mean seriously, how could we not? We went to Eataly and yes, it was delicious and simple. I first had to treat myself to some delicious focaccia bread, the wait was an hour. And once we sat down, I ate delicious spaghetti. It was simple red sauce and tasted oh so good.

We ended the night by attempting to watch Elf. I was out in about 10 seconds.

Sleep came and then we left early in the morning.

New York was a dream. Until next time, I will most definitely miss you.

Currently eating carrots. Boring carrots. I am making myself eat my bag of carrots before I can have another Diet Coke. (I woke up at 4:34 am to work roll-out at J.Crew.)

I am practicing serious self control. I also forget the rest of my snacks and my lunch has been long gone for an hour.

A time to give thanks.

Thanksgiving was as fabulous as ever. We celebrated with Jason, Abby, Spencer, Sara, Claire, Baby Mary-Katie and the Pratt family. Abby cooked delicious yams and I made Shelley's stuffing, a Henriod tradition. I stuffed myself with red jello and stuffing. It was a perfect day. I made Abby run with me in the morning, she was a champion.

Jason and I went Black Friday shopping and I LOVED it. Maybe I really am a Crookston. We met Emily and Mandi at Target, they graciously stood in line for us. And we met the madness of shopping with pure excitement. I didn't buy any electronics, only 550 count tread sheets. Totally worth it. Emily and Mandi got some great deals for their kids and significant others.

The Thanksgiving weekend was perfect. Lots of relaxation and time with family. We watched movies, ate delicious food, went shopping, went to the Z00 lights and totally enjoyed ourselves.

So much to be thankful for. Here are just a few of the things Mitch and I wrote down for the month of November.

• Grandparents. Mitch's Grandpa Joe died a week before Thanksgiving. During this past month, Mitch has spent a lot of time reflecting on all the wonderful things that Grandpa Joe represented. Grandpa Joe will be forever missed.
• Family. Oh how much we love our families. Both of them, equally. We look forward to being with them. We are so lucky to have Spencer and Sara so close.
• Friends. There are a lot of friends that I consider as part of my family. I would be completely lost without them.
• Exercise, especially running. Mitch has turned into a runner. I love it. Maybe one day I can convince him that we need to run another marathon together.
• Books. We love books.
• School. Mitch is basically the perfect candidate to be a student forever. He loves to learn and loves to teach.
• Dance. This element of my life is crucial. I love dance always, all the time.
• Food. We are foodies, is that even a word? We love to go out to eat, we love to eat with others, we love to share our food with others, if only I really loved to cook. I love to cook when I have endless amounts of time and fresh vegetables. Maybe one day.
• And we are so thankful to have somewhere to call home.

I hope that your Thanksgiving was as wonderful as mine was. And now, it's time for Christmas. I love Christmas. I started off my Christmas holiday by eating sour Santas from Jolly's. There is no better way to celebrate the Holidays than with food. Oh, and I bought a box of dark chocolate covered Holiday Jo-Jo's from Trader Joe's. So DELICIOUS.

(This picture perfectly displays my mission. I wore that black sweater for probably 100 days straight. It was a different sweater from the one I shrunk.)

Jenna is my friend, one of my best friends and today is her birthday. We met in 2006 in the MTC, Missionary Training Center, in Provo right before I left to go to Lithuania. We luckily ended up being companions for a large majority of our missions. Jenna and I laughed every single day together. She was my favorite companion and I love her so.

Some of my favorite memories with Jenna include:

• Me, smashed in the bus doors. Jenna laughing.
• Jenna carrying me over a large puddle of water. Jenna peed her skirt, I dropped my Book of Mormon in the large puddle of water and my shoes ended up getting wet. And loads of contact cards floating everywhere.
• Making clay figures for Andi when Jenna was sick. I was bored out of my mind and our clay figures melted in the oven. We are idiots.
• Striped socks! So, so funny.
• Yellow Face.
• Sister Arklys.
• Jolita and Alexandra telling both us we were fat. (Lithuanians are not afraid to be honest, we were fat.)
• My black sweater. (One of the worst days of my mission. I cried for an hour over my wool sweater shrinking in the washer. I obviously didn't know how to do my own laundry. Jenna laughed so hard, she peed her pants.)
• Running in the forest.
• Klaipeda. It was a dream.
• Watching Jenna drive away with President and Sister Watterson on a cold day in February and it was raining. (This was a scene just like from a book, I was in total depression.)
• The fat man on the bus with our Christmas boxes.
• Jenna not able to resist opening all of her presents before Christmas. She was like a kid in a candy store.
• And of course all of the spiritual experiences.
• Jenna rescuing me after my accident. She didn't even skip a beat. She was there in 10 seconds.
• Probably my most favorite memory of all was teaching a woman, who's name I forget, and her crazy obsession with the TV and the bus ride on the way home. I laughed so so so so so so hard.

Prom

Prom was soooo much fun. Probably one of the best nights we have had in DC. Mitch danced the night away like a crazy person and I loved every second of it.

Lucky for me, Andi is here. I was lucky enough to see her on Saturday night. We ate delicious Thai food, talked politics and fell in love with DC, again. And I got to see Jill. It was a perfect way to end my Saturday.

My life.

Wish I was wearing this 80's Prom dress tonight to Mitch's PROM! Purple is my new favorite color.

1. This was part of my latest conversation with my sister-in-law:

Abby: Have you been able to cook this week?
Sarah: Not once. I am pathetic.

I seriously am pathetic, we haven't cooked since last Thursday, eight days ago. You may be wondering what we eat: cereal, milk, more cereal and sandwiches. Great diet. No wonder Mitch always want to go out out.

2. I just ate, tried to eat, a mushy apple. Probably the worst tasting thing in the world. And the worst part of my day. I haven't been to the store to buy real food in three weeks. (Costco organic milk lasts for ages!)

3. I taught dance last night for the first time since May and I loved it so much. I always love teaching. But today I can't move my back or my hips or my thighs for that matter. I think I am a little sore from pilates, ridiculous, but all the same. My body hurts.

4. Mitch and I are going to prom tonight with his school. I am so excited, who doesn't love prom? Still have no idea what I am going to wear.

5. I have always heard people say, "My life is completely out of control. I can't get organized, I never get dinner fixed. I haven't been to the store in weeks. My house is a mess." And I would wonder how on earth people actually felt like that. I have turned into this person. I have no idea when or how it happen. But this is me. My life has zero structure. The only things I get accomplished each day are: work, a little bit of spiritualness (I know this isn't a word, but it's going to have to be for the time being) and most likely exercise. Everything else in my is out of control. I am back to sleeping way less than eight hours a night. I slept for five hours a night all through college and until I moved to Minnesota. Once I got to Minnesota and slept for eight hours a night, I vowed to never sleep less than sever hours a night again! And hear I am, never sleeping eight hours a night. I can't tell you many times I hear people tell me I look tired, it makes you feel like a million bucks. (This is a joke, please laugh). We eat dinnermost nights at ten, my most usual breakfast is a bag of dry cherriors and any type of fruit I can find. I should be more productive on the metro, but I am too focused on listening to Harry Potter. I am obsessed with the books on tape. I have already listened to most of them at least three times.

All in all life is chaos. But don't be confused, good chaos. Chaos full of joy and life.

Did I mention that the Kunz family left? I already miss them and they have only been gone one day.

And to top everything off, I haven't watched my shows in weeks. Good thing next week is looking pretty open, especially since Saturday is my last day of work at J.Crew. Yes, I quit. Yes, I am sad. And yes, I had to quit so that I could have some structure in my life. Just a little would be nice.

Happy Halloween!

(This is the movie I watched for over an hour on the treadmill, I didn't see the ending but loved the 80's clothes through the entire movie. And it was the perfect way to start off my Halloween weekend.)

Happy Halloween! Who doesn't love HALLOWEEN? I seriously love it. Reasons why I love Halloween:

1. The best excuse all year to eat loads and loads of candy. I love baby Twix the very most. And of course Tootsie Rolls, I craved them on my mission.
2. A great excuse to dress up. My best costumes were in college. There were many instances of dressing up as pigs with much pride.
3. Trick-o-Treating. Tonight, I get to go with the Kunz's family. I am so excited.
4. Did I mention that I can eat all the candy I want without feeling the least bit guilty?

Weekend Update:

This weekend was the best, the BEST. Seriously the best. Rach and John were here. The Kunz family is still here.

First, I have to mention that I ran 8.4 miles on the treadmill this Saturday. This might be one of the biggest accomplishments of my life, seriously. You might think I am joking, I'm not. I usually have a breakdown on the treadmill by at least mile three. It was raining like crazy outside and Teen Witch was on TV. Also, I have a half marathon in two weeks and my longest run in months has been six miles. Lets just hope I finish the half, let us all hope.

On Saturday we went to the American History Museum and I loved it. It might be my favorite museum on the Mall. We saw the American Flag. It was beautiful, I am proud to be an American. We also saw Dorthy's shoes. They are full of fabulous red sparkles, I would really love to try them on. We saw Julia Child's Kitchen, I would love to have so many elements of her kitchen. I especially loved her copper pans and her stove. And we saw the First Lady's Dresses. They are so exciting. My favorites were Jackie Kennedy's and Mary Lincoln's.

We also went to the Phillips Gallery on Saturday and it was well worth the $10. They have a Degas exhibit. I identify so much with these paintings because of my love for dance. I am fascinated by how well Degas captured the movement of dance in a painting.

Sunday we went to hear Ali and Alex speak, best sacrament meeting ever. I didn't even fall asleep and that is a really big accomplishment for me. I am so glad they are my friends.

And we got lucky enough to go to a Raven's game in Baltimore. Rach's really good friend, Christina lives there and her husband plays for the team. It was really exciting and I don't even like football. Mitch was in HEAVEN. After the game we went to the family area and watched all the players walk out of the locker room. I even saw Michael Oher, just really exciting.

Rach left today and yes, I already miss her. She is the best. Lucky for me, the Kunz family doesn't leave until Thursday and Andi comes Friday. I can't wait to play all weekend long.

One last thing....it snowed on Saturday, real BIG snowflakes fell continually from the sky. Crazy October weather, good thing I was able to ride my bike into work today. The sky is perfectly blue without a cloud in the sky.

Happy Halloween! I hope you all eat lots of candy and wear a fabulous costume.

My step-sister Corinne Gentry is in this amazing band The Folka Dots. You should check them out. They play all over Utah, I wish I could be there to attend their concerts. Their music is simple, full of meaningful messages, full of folk and absolutely beautiful.

My date with Mitch

We both loved every second. Yes, Mitch does love musicals and Les Mis just happens to be his most favorite. I have seen this play/musical a few different times and yesterday was my favorite. Each time I see this play I get something new, different and more important from it's message. My favorite line from yesterday was, "when you love another person, you see the face of God." This play is tragic and beautiful, full of sadness, despair, hope, love and true kindness.

Hannah is the best.

Hannah came to visit last week and it was so much fun. Hannah is young and full of youthful energy. We went to New York to visit family and we saw everything, you think I am joking I am not. I decided that I am getting old, I was so tired the entire time I was in New York. It was so wonderful to have Hannah here. She is the best guest and incredibility cool.

*Let me just comment that the reason for the sudden addition of new posts is the increased amount of time I now spend in front of computer. I went from zero to eight.

Don't we all love fall? I love fall weather. I love scarves, obsession from my mission. I love hot chocolate and tea, another obsession from my mission. And yes, I love Ute football. And this year my cousin, Coleman, is the kicker, which makes games even more exciting. I love trees and their changing leaves. I love Halloween. Who doesn't love to dress up and eat all the free candy they can get? I love butternut squash soup, however Mitch does not. When I was in college I loved fall for many reasons. The beginning of a new semester always brought excitement, Ute football, campus and Chi Omega Rush (slightly vain, I know). Now that my college days are long gone. I have a new found love in fall, TV. I am not ashamed to admit it. I love shows and I love them even more when I haven't seen them. Disclaimer #1: Did not have a TV through all of college. I had no idea what shows people loved. In fact, I didn't even know what 24 was. Awesome, right? Seriously, it was awesome.

After I got married I started having "my shows". I blame this on the fact that I moved to Minnesota where it is absolutely freezing outside and the most time I could cross country ski in one day was an hour. I also blame this on the fact that I Mitch and I seriously knew no one our first month there. So, now I am a person of shows.

My favorites include:

Tuesday Nights:

• NCIS, go ahead and laugh. But it's addicting. And yes, the show is made for old people.
• The Biggest Loser. I have only seen one entire season of this show, but every time I watch it I cry. I do love this show.
  
• Parenthood. I love this show for so many reasons. My good friend Megan got me hooked.
  

Wednesday Nights:

• Modern Family. I laugh every episode. Last year I had dance on this night, so I missed most of the episodes. But Mitch is obsessed.
• SVU. I used to love this show, but it's not on the top of my list.
  

Thursday Nights:

• 30 ROCK!! I love, love, love this show. It makes me laugh all the time. Mitch and I watched all the seasons on Netflix last winter and I am looking forward to watching the show on TV. And if you watch 30 Rock and NCIS, you will get all the NCIS jokes. They are sooooooooooooooooo funny!
  

Sunday Nights:

• Amazing Race. I have only seen one season. Megan also got me hooked to this show last year. And I love it. I might need Megan here to help me watch it again this year!
  

Others: (Yes, I even have an others column)

• Friday Night Lights. I can honestly say this is my favorite show I have ever watched. I am really sad it's over.
• Suits. It's on USA. I watch it online. And I really like it.
• Covert Affairs. So, I only actually saw about 1.5 episodes this year. But I do like it.
• Chicago Code. It used to be on Fox and was canceled in May. It was my favorite new show last year.
• SYTYCD! I have only seen three entire episodes. But I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to watch an entire season...one day.
• Debates. I know this doesn't actually count as a show. But aren't they so exciting? And election season is just about to start. Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I love politics. I even bought my first campaign button, it makes me so happy.
• Chopped. I have no idea what time or what day this show is on. But every time I watch I have a great desire to make something delicious to eat with random ingredients. This doesn't ever actually happen, but it's a great thought.

*Disclaimer #2. I don't actually ever sit down and watch any of these shows when they air on TV. Mitch and I basically have no time here. Between school, job #1, job #2, visitors and trying to prepare some kind of meal each night, I feel lucky if I get five minutes of alone time with Mitch. We end up eating dinner about 9:00 pm every night and going to bed at 1:00 am. My life currently has no structure. It's basically fabulous. Back to TV. I haven't watched any actual TV, except CNN...of course (it's always on in DC, everywhere you go), since moving here. I just find catch up time to go back and watch them online. I have an hour lunch break every day, I am way too cheap to go out to eat and I don't have a car at work. So, I watch shows.

Basic point I am making here...none.

Why I run...

Last night after I came home from work, I went running. I usually try to squeeze running into every day of the week. I have this ultimate goal to exercise before work, I just have to come to terms with myself that it will NEVER happen. I was so good about waking up early in the summer to run and I just can't do it here. (Maybe that's because I am addicted to watching Friday Night Lights or the fact that the only time I get to see Mitch is at about 10:00 pm or that SJ K-ville is not with me.) Back to running. I love to run. Last night the sky was painted pink with the DC monuments in the background. The clouds were endless and the sunset was perfect. It was also cool enough to wear a long sleeve shirt while running, a true sign of fall. What do you think about when you run? Me, I think about dance. I choreograph dances while I run. Sometimes I even stop to see if the movement really works. I probably look like a crazy person out there dancing on the sidewalk with all my running clothes on, but I don't really care. I do love to run. I never win races and I am never the fastest one. But running soothes me. It makes me feel whole and happy. I love to run with others, it doesn't matter how fast or how slow, I just love to run. As for my music...Billy Joel, Bob Dillon, Tom Petty, Patty Griffin, basically anything that brings back memories goes on my shuffle. There are many days that I have to talk myself into running, and it takes all I have to go. But after the first thirty minutes, I forget that I didn't even want to run. As for running on a treadmill, I have a breakdown every time I get on the machine. Ok, not a serious breakdown, but I HATE it. Running becomes tedious and overwhelming. Which means, I only make it about thirty minutes on a treadmill and then I have to get off.

I just love to run. Happy running and a happy weekend to all of you.

BYU vs. Ole Miss

We went to the BYU/Ole Miss game last Saturday and got to visit Jeff and Kelly at the same time in Memphis. I loved every second of it. We ate delicious BBQ. Ole Miss fans are the nicest people I have ever met. And they dress-up for games. Don't worry I didn't cheer for BYU. We loved Memphis.

The Alta Cabin is very special to the Henriod family and I feel lucky to be a part of it. We went to Alta and had the greatest time. We ate food, hiked and played. We LOVE ALTA!

Summer - California

Tessa, she already is a beauty queen and loves Michael so much!

We went to visit Joel, Lindsay, Kimball, Clara and Tessa, Mitch's brother, in California right before we moved to DC. I love California, I could live there. We had the best time. We went to the beach, out to eat, to movies, shopping (I even enjoyed shopping) and to the symphony. Joel and Lindsay are the best hosts and we can't wait to go back. We miss them so much.

The Lake District

The Lake District is awesome. We walked/hiked around one of the lakes and loved every second. We stayed in a bed and breakfast right on the water. It was one of our last nights, a perfect way to end the trip.

I have been meaning to document for months. We loved London! I could live there. There are so many places in London that bring such great memories to me. (I spent a summer there in college.) Mitch and I did most everything we wanted to do, we got to see Wicked! I loved it and so did Mitch.

I also took Mitch to see the Peter Pan Statue in Hyde Park (see below), my absolute favorite part of the park. We ate lots of Indian food, I honestly think that nothing beats the Bombay House. We went to museums, a lot of them. Mitch has an amazing memory and still remembers all the small, important details from his art history class in college. It was very nice to have him as a companion. We also went to see Lion King and we got lucky enough to sit in a box seat. Mitch's favorite part of London was the Churchill Museum, we spent all day in there. Overall, we loved London!

As of Late.

Life has been good to us. Lately we:

• Moved into our apartment. Our stuff barely fits. We love it.
• Celebrated Mitch's 28th birthday! More to come on that later.
• Went to Memphis. Loved being there with Jeff and Kelly.
• Went to the BYU/Ole Miss game. I tried my hardest to cheer for BYU and I just couldn't.
  
• Abby came and visited.

That's about it. Someday, hopefully soon, I will get around to puttin up some pictures.

And we are obsessed with Friday Night Lights. When I grow up I want to be Tami Taylor.

Well, it's been about 18 months since I have had an office job and let me tell you...I am so happy to be back, seriously. The lobbying firm I work for is awesome and my one co-worker is fabulous. The one down side is that yes, I did eat my entire lunch before 11:10 am.

On another note, remember how there was an earthquake yesterday in DC? I totally panicked, forgot everything I learned about earthquake safety in fourth grade. I circled around the room like a crazy person. My co-worker and I were both in a state of total panic and it only lasted 15 seconds.

Also, did I mention that we are moving on Saturday?

Diet Ginger Ale.

I have A LOT of free time on my hands these days. (Most unfortunately I think I am much more productive when I have almost no free time.) Today I looked at two apartments, got completely lost. Probably more lost than ever before, it was the bus map's fault. Not mine, seriously. I also went to the Zoo by myself and marveled at the pandas. I just sat there, staring at them in pure amazement. I also found Diet Ginger Ale in the bottle, from 7-11 next to the Zoo. This may not seem important to most of you, but seriously I was so happy. I have been looking for weeks and weeks.

Now, the real reason of this post...

"making every moment count" means letting the moments be what they'll be, not forcing them into my idea of what they should be."

I read this line from my friend's blog today and couldn't help but share it with the rest of you.
