Spring in DC

Spring might be my favorite season in DC.  I love the Cherry Blossoms and just walking around outside.  I kind of became obsessed with the Cherry Blossoms and went almost every day to see them when they were blooming.  Lucky for me I could ride/run during lunch and after work.   Beth and I also ran the Cherry Blossom 10 miler which was the perfect race for Spring in DC.

This is always the first tree to bloom.  It's right by my work.

Lunch time walk around the Capitol.

Run around the Tidal Basin.
Can you see the Washington in the background?

Tidal Basin and MLK.

Waiting for class I took this picture.  It's the last of the blossoms.

Backyard at work.  My work is really an amazing place.

If you can't tell I am obsessed with the Cherry Blossoms.

Christmas away from home.

Before going home at the end of December we tried to celebrate a little around the city.  We:

1.  Went to see the White House Christmas Tree and the Capitol Christmas Tree.
2.  Went to see A Christmas Carol at Ford's Theater.  (This is one of my favorite things I have done in DC).
3. Went to breakfast at Old Ebbitts Grill.
4.  Made Gingerbread Men (Mary Kate tried to eat them, she is the cutest).
5.  Went to the Botanical Gardens to see the Christmas display.
6.  Made gingerbread houses with Mitch's classmates.  As you can see below, we've got serious talent.
7.  Discovered the perfect Christmas store (it's actually called The Christmas Store!) in Old Town Alexandria, the ornaments are amazing.

Miss Mary Kate.  i am slightly obsessed

Happy Birthday Mitch!

We finished celebrating Mitch's birthday this past week, here's how...

Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream.  First of the season.

Trifle,  Mitch's favorite dessert.

Happy Birthday Mitch.  I love him so much.
Mitch turned 29 on Wednesday, we are getting so old!  We celebrated by eating at Pupatella, it's just as delicious as Punch in the Twin Cities, and ended the night with Trifle.  I love Mitch so much and I can't imagine my life without him.

 Our weekend update:
DC Temple.
(We don't know the people in the picture, just happened to be standing there.)

Baby Sam and Shelley.
We are going to be so sad when Shelley leaves this week.
We are obsessed with Baby Sam.

Weekend project #1.
I finally recovered our chairs with the help of Shelley and Abby.
Can you tell which one is new?

Project #2.  Still working on hanging up pictures 13 months after we moved in.

Besides projects and holding babies, we had a sleepover with Abby, Jason, and Shelley - I felt like I was 10 and loved it, ate a lot of food, and got caught in an awesome/terrible/typical DC rain shower.  We are really good at eating, we went to eat brunch at the Carlyle in Shirlington and I took Abby and Shelley to the Dairy Godmother in Del Ray.  It was a fabulous weekend.

Happy Monday.

Coldplay + Birthday.

I am back in DC, Mitch is back in Charlotte, our family is in Salt Lake.  How sad for us, luckily I was welcomed back to DC with Coldplay tickets.  It was amazing.  Thank you to Andi and Bree for singing and dancing with me on my birthday at Coldplay.  I want to go again and again.  The concert was definitely the highlight of my day yesterday, especially after a red eye flight on Sunday night.

They handed out these wristbands at the beginning of the concert and the lit up during the show.  Seriously awesome.

Ali + Kayak

Ali and I went Kayaking on the Potomac.
It was so much fun and I can't wait to go again.
Don't worry my arms got tired after five minutes.  We kept taking breaks, mostly because my arms are so weak.

Prom

Prom was soooo much fun. Probably one of the best nights we have had in DC. Mitch danced the night away like a crazy person and I loved every second of it.

Mitch, me, Vanessa and Cole. We hang out with Vanessa and Cole a lot and we are so happy they are in DC with us. Vanessa and I were actually in China together in 2005!

Here is a picture of Mitch's group, the males, from his first semester. They are all FABULOUS!

Reasons for Loving O C T O B E R

1. Conference...great talks, no church..win, win, win situation
2. I can read 20 free articles online at NYTimes.com. It really drives me crazy that I can only read 20 a month.
3. We have visitors galore this month. I can't wait. Shelley, Paul, Abby, Kunz Family and Hannah.
4. And it's finally a little cool. Thank goodness. Maybe, just maybe I will stop sweating on my walk from the metro to work.
5. Changing leaves.
6. Les Mis.
7. And oh, it's Halloween.

Happy Weekend.

back.

Well, it's been about 18 months since I have had an office job and let me tell you...I am so happy to be back, seriously. The lobbying firm I work for is awesome and my one co-worker is fabulous. The one down side is that yes, I did eat my entire lunch before 11:10 am.

On another note, remember how there was an earthquake yesterday in DC? I totally panicked, forgot everything I learned about earthquake safety in fourth grade. I circled around the room like a crazy person. My co-worker and I were both in a state of total panic and it only lasted 15 seconds.

Also, did I mention that we are moving on Saturday?

Happy Wednesday.

Loves,
sj
