Yesterday I came home from school and declared to Mitch that I must and need to receive a Ph D in Education. We were laying in bed, trying our hardest to carry on conversation. But I am always just so tired. He simply laughed at me and we went to sleep.
I woke up this morning still pondering over the idea of more and more education. This all started in class last night. The former President of GW (for 19 years!) came and talked to my class about higher education. About his experiences while being President. I left the class feeling inspired. Feeling like I could make some sort of very important impact on society. All I need to do is stay in school and become a president of a school. Ha. Sounds so easy, right. Maybe on paper.
Skip forward to this afternoon. I have been thinking about the mountains and everything they mean to me. Hiking, beauty, flowers, endless hills, skiing, no connection to the media world, memories, so many memories that I hold close to my heart. I am thinking about my family and friends so far away in the west. My mind often travels back to Minnesota. Minnesota impacted my life in such a strange and simple way. My life was so easy and simple in Rochester. Daily visit with Megan, long walks, no traffic (people in Rochester don't even know what that word means), endless amounts of DQ ice cream, flat rolling hills that were covered with dandelions throughout the spring (strangely beautiful), a yellow house with perfect wood floors and endless amounts of time with Mitch. We lived in a dream.
Living in DC. Life is oh so complicated here in so many ways. Mitch and I are always busy, but also very happy. I can't remember the last time I had a free week day night. My nights are filled with class, teaching dance, church, alumni association, and a million other little things. Work is busy and slow each and every single day. Lots of attention to detail is required to make sure everything falls into place. The traffic! I could write an entire book on traffic in DC. If you put your blinker on there is no possible way that anyone is going to let you over. Everyone has lots of degrees, works lots of hours, and knows everyone. Such a different experience than my life in Rochester.
To the title of my post, I want to have it all. I want to have a billion degrees and run a top ten university. I want to solve the education crisis in our country. I want to spend every summer in the mountains camping, waterskiing, and hiking. I want to run a marathon in every single state. I want to spend as much time as possible traveling with Mitch. I want to choreograph dances for the rest of my life. I want Megan to live next door to me to help me be crafty and make delicious food. I want SJKVille to live on the other side to run with me every morning, running is such a need in my life. I want to go on my annual Hebgen trip with Rach. While I cook burnt food and she chops down wood. I need Mitch to stay close to my side all the time. I want us to eat dinner each night with our family. I want to work hard and accomplish things. Contribute to my community and make it a better place. But most of all I want to be at home with my family, with Mitch. I want to have children that really know their Mom, Dad, grandparents, and cousins.
I can't have it all. I can't be the president with no nanny and be a full time stay at home mom. I guess it a good thing that right now I don't have to make a decision. I just get to keep on living.
Happy Super Tuesday. Don't forget to vote. The delegates decide the GOP Presidential nominee.
